Sleep Consult & Study
Getting you to a Restful Night’s Sleep
Sleep disorders can affect both adults and children and include everything from sleep apnea and sleeplessness to snoring and sleepwalking. Because of shame, self-treatment, or the belief that nothing can be done to alleviate the condition, many people neglect or ignore sleep disorders.
Prolonged therapy for sleep apnea can have a negative impact on a person’s physical, mental, and psychological health, resulting in a variety of health problems and of low quality of life.
Many types of sleep disturbances can now be treated swiftly and safely because of advances in technology and resources. However, it is critical to work with a sleep specialist who specializes in this area.
Board-certified physicians and sleep therapists work at Experiancare, and they are solely dedicated to teaching, identifying, and treating people with all types of sleep problems and their underlying causes. Our specialists have more than 20 years of experience working with both adults and children
Initial Consultation on Sleep
An initial sleep consultation with our board-certified sleep specialist will be the first step in directing you to a good night’s sleep. Your sleep specialist will go over your medical history as well as your sleep difficulties during this appointment. Your physician will discuss your diagnosis and therapy options for your specific concern after completing a comprehensive evaluation. Experiancare uses cutting-edge testing as well as creative and comprehensive treatment options to ensure that you get the finest care available.
Continue to study
Your sleep specialist may require you to return for a follow-up sleep study appointment based on your diagnosis during the initial session.
If a sleep study is required, you will be scheduled for one before leaving your consultation appointment. (If a sleep study is required, please bring available dates and times with you.) To avoid breaks in diagnosis and therapy—and to ensure a successful treatment outcome—critical it’s to schedule the sleep study (if necessary) as soon as feasible.
In other circumstances, a sleep study isn’t necessary, and your sleep specialist will explore the therapy choices that are best for your diagnosis.
Sleep Studies: Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of sleep study will be carried out?
An overnight sleep study, often known as nocturnal polysomnograms or PSG, will be performed by your sleep specialist. To guarantee that you are tracked for a suitable amount of time and stages of sleep, the study must be conducted overnight.
Overnight sleep research are divided into three categories:
1: Diagnostic examination
The Diagnostic Evaluation Sleep Study is one of the most used overnight sleep investigations. In this study, sleep professionals monitor your sleep without involving you in any way. This test is commonly used to diagnose or rule out a condition.
2: Titration of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
A CPAP machine, or a ‘continuous positive airway pressure machine, is used in this study to deliver a modest kind of air pressure to treat those with breathing problems. Sleep apnea and other sleep disorders are frequently caused by breathing problems.
3: Split Night Research
This study, as the name implies, combines two separate investigations into one, namely the Diagnostic and CPAP Titration studies. The trial starts with a Diagnostic Evaluation and then switches to CPAP at the halfway mark. After the CPAP is turned on, the breathing pressure is gradually increased during the night until breathing returns to normal.
4: What will the sleep expert keep an eye on?
The individual’s stages of sleep are observed during an overnight sleep study in the sleep lab by capturing their eye movements, muscular tone, and brainwave patterns. The heart rate, oxygen supply, breathing efforts, and airflow, as well as snoring and leg movements, are all examined in the study.
5: If I’ve already been diagnosed with a sleep disorder, do I still need the sleep study?
Yes. The ultimate goal of the Experiancare is for our treatment plans to be successful and for our patients to have a better quality of life. As a result, your sleep specialist may want you to do a second sleep study to check that no changes to your existing treatment plan are required.
6: What is the procedure for a sleep study?
When you arrive at our sleep lab, you’ll be shown to a private room where the study will take place. Your sleep technologist will place sensors on the scalp, face, throat, chest, fingers, and lets to correctly examine the individual’s stages of sleep and symptoms associated with sleep apnea.
Individuals are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing or similar to what they may wear when preparing to sleep at home. In addition, patients are encouraged to bring a pillow, comforter/blanket, and other items that may help them recreate the in-home sleep atmosphere.
For additional information or questions you may contact our office or speak to your sleep specialist.
